Qualitas has appointed its first external director to the board of Qualitas Securities, which acts as trustee of the group’s investment funds, including the Qualitas Real Estate Debt Fund.

Mr Lewis Bearman has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, including 20 years in senior executive positions in the investment management sector.

He was previously with Perennial Investment Partners for 11 years, where his roles included chief operating officer and, more recently, chief executive officer. His responsibilities included oversight and involvement with Perennial’s investment management activities in Australia, Ireland and the USA.

Prior to Perennial, Mr Bearman spent 17 years with County Investment Management (which became INVESCO Australia), where he also held senior positions in their operations, funds management, fixed income and foreign exchange teams.

Mr Andrew Schwartz, group managing director of Qualitas, said that Mr Bearman’s appointment will bring further industry experience and knowledge to its well established risk management, compliance, and funds management operations.

“Lewis’ wide-ranging industry experience will further add to the governance and fund security for investors, as well as enhancing the technical knowledge and experience of the wider group.

“We are particularly pleased that an industry leader of Lewis’ calibre has joined the board, at a time when we are actively expanding our investment offering to the institutional market and implementing a long-term growth strategy for the business,” Mr Schwartz said.
