Platypus Asset Management’s co-founder and chief investment officer, Donald Williams, will step down from his investment and management responsibilities due to health reasons. He will remain with the Platypus business, acting in a key business advisory and mentoring role.
Co-founder of Platypus, Nick Wright, has been appointed chairman, with Rohan Mead deputy chair. Platypus’ chief operating officer, Gary Adamson, will assume the role of chief executive officer.
“We are extremely grateful for Donald’s vision and leadership over the past 10 years. Along with Gary and Nick, he has been instrumental in building one of the longest standing and strongest investment boutiques in the market,” Mr Mead said.
“Donald has built an extraordinary investment capability and team and his day to day involvement in operations will be sadly missed,” Mr Wright said.
“As a result of Donald’s efforts to build a strong team and robust investment process we are very pleased to have individuals of the calibre of Prasad Patkar and Peter Brooke, Platypus veterans, able to step into the head of investment roles,” Mr Wright said.
Prasad Patkar, who has been deputy portfolio manager for a number of years, will assume the role of head of qualitative investments, with responsibility for the management of the flagship investment portfolios and the oversight of the fundamental investment team and processes, which remain otherwise unchanged.
Peter Brooke, portfolio manager for Platypus’ systematic portfolios has been appointed head of quantitative investments.
“Our investment process is team driven, and we have a significant depth of experience and longevity within the team. Prasad and Peter, together with the senior members of the investment team have been instrumental in the delivery of portfolio outcomes and the ongoing management and development of the Platypus investment processes and products.
“The transition of portfolio management responsibilities is therefore an obvious and extremely smooth one,” Mr Adamson said.
