Tribeca Investment Partners has appointed Michael Orphanides and James Eginton as investment analysts for the Global Natural Resources team. Mr Orphanides and Mr Eginton will be based in Sydney and report to portfolio managers Ben Cleary and Craig Evans.

Mr Orphanides has around 14 years financial markets and investment experience with sector coverage including gold, base metals, mineral sands, coal and uranium mining companies. Prior to joining Tribeca he worked with RBC Capital Markets, CBA and NM Rothschild & Sons in risk and analyst roles.

Mr Eginton has 10 years investment experience taking in a broad range of sector coverage including energy resources, steel and building materials. Prior to joining Tribeca he spent nine years with Nikko Asset Management in various roles including head of the Commodities Group, research analyst and assistant dealer. Prior to this he was the recipient of the Winter Internship for Equities at JP Morgan Chase, where he worked across six equity divisions including sales trading, research sales and research.

Mr Cleary says the addition of Mr Orphanides and Mr Eginton further strengthens Tribeca’s expertise in global natural resources.

“Michael has spent the past six months working with Tribeca as a consultant, and during that time has already contributed positively to the business and fund,” Mr Cleary said.

“James brings a broad cross section of sector coverage experience to the role. The entire Tribeca team will benefit from the appointments, and the Smaller Companies Fund, the Alpha Plus Fund and the Global Total Return Fund will also draw on resources and content from this team.”

The appointments follow the release of the Preqin Insight report in October, which named Tribeca Global Natural Resources Fund the Preqin Top Performing Long/Short Equity Fund Globally. It also follows the launch, earlier this year, of a Cayman vehicle for the Tribeca Global Natural Resources Fund to meet the growing demand from international investors.

Mr Orphanides is a CFA charter holder, has a Masters of Computer Science from UNSW, a Bachelor of Commercial (Finance) / Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) from UNSW and a Graduate Certificate in Mining Engineering from UNSW.

Mr Eginton is a CFA charter holder, has a Masters of Mining, Engineering and Mine Management from UNSW and a Bachelor of Commerce (honours) from UNSW.
