As part of its continuing growth and diversification, Australian Unity Investments (AUI) has created four senior investment executive roles to work with each of its investment management businesses, including AUI’s joint venture partners.

The creation of a specialist team of investment professionals will augment the support AUI provides its asset managers.  The four specialists will have commercial responsibility for investment and product strategy and will report to Fiona Dunn (general manager – funds management).  Three of the roles have been filled with the fourth appointment expected to be announced shortly.

Jody Fitzgerald, who will be based in Sydney, joins AUI from UBS Wealth Management, where she was head of investment and product research.  She has also worked as an investment strategist at Deutsche Asset Management, as head of retail investment services at Skandia/Intech and as senior research analyst at ASSIRT and investment analyst at Mercer Investment Consulting.  Ms Fitzgerald has over 14 years’ industry experience and holds a bachelor of economic degree (honours) from the University of New South Wales.

Guy Sainsbury, who has almost 20 years’ financial services experience, was most recently with Westpac Institutional Bank where he was director of property originations with Hastings Funds Management.  Mr Sainsbury has also worked with Abacus Property Group and NM Rothschild and Sons in senior property investment and banking roles, as well as with Deutsche Morgan Grenfell in Tokyo as a transactor.  He holds a bachelor of arts in international business and economics from Sophia University in Tokyo, and is currently completing his qualifications as a chartered financial analyst (CFA).

Paul Ramsay, who has over 20 years financial services experience, was most recently head of researcher relationships at AUI.  Before joining AUI in 2007, Mr Ramsay worked for MLC/NAB for over a decade in a number of senior roles.   He has a diploma in financial services from the financial services institute of Australia and is a certified investment management analyst.

Ms Dunn said that the new team will provide a high level of technical investment specialisation and expertise to complement AUI’s existing capabilities.

“Jody, Paul and Guy each bring a very high level of experience and expertise to their roles, and will provide a level of strategic knowledge and support to the business that we believe will contribute significantly to our ongoing growth and success,” Ms Dunn said.

Australian Unity Investments is the funds management arm of Australian Unity – a national healthcare, financial services and retirement living organisation providing services to some 620,000 Australians, including 320,000 members nationwide.
