Big Sky Building Society has appointed Nathan McEwan to the newly created role of general manager products, strategy and marketing. Mr McEwan’s appointment follows the recent additions to the executive team of Helen Burgess as general manager, sales, service and distribution, and Matthew Chan as head of operations and projects.

Mr McEwan will report to Big Sky’s chief executive officer, Robert Bell.

Mr Bell says the appointment of Mr McEwan completes the leadership team and positions Big Sky well for the expected growth to come in 2015.

“Nathan has a diverse product and marketing background spanning 14 years and several industries including banking, travel, health and retailing.

“In particular, his experience in developing digital marketing strategy to target new customers, as well as his work in customer retention and loyalty programs, are a good fit with Big Sky’s business objectives for 2015.

“His skill set will be invaluable as we look to grow the breadth and depth of the product services available to our customer base, and increase awareness with existing and new customer bases of the benefits of banking with a building society over a big bank.

“Employer groups will be a particular target for Big Sky during 2015, and there has already been some encouraging developments in this area,” Mr Bell said.

Most recently Mr McEwan worked for Coles Liquor as head of digital and loyalty. He has also worked with ahm by MediBank Private where he was focused on developing digital programs, and Target where he focused on developing cards programs, retention strategies, online sales and marketing.

Mr McEwan’s banking experience came from NAB, where he was head of credit cards and personal lending marketing.  In this role he was responsible for client acquisition, retention, cross sell and portfolio management and played a key role in NABs well known and recognised “break up’ campaign.

Mr McEwan holds a Masters of Business (Marketing) and is a member of the Australian Institute of Marketing.
