Big Sky Building Society has appointed Matthew Chan to the newly created role of head of operations and projects, reflecting its enhanced focus on increasing operational efficiency.
Reporting to chief executive officer Robert Bell, Mr Chan will be responsible for the operational management and improvement of Big Sky’s core systems, processing and back office functions.
Mr Chan joins Big Sky from ANZ where he has held a number of senior roles in both Melbourne and Hong Kong over the last 12 years, including regional business manager, commercial banking Asia Pacific, regional manager, strategy, Pacific, and project manager and management information system (MIS) manager, Pacific.
Mr Chan has also worked as a research analyst in mining and energy, and as an exploration geologist. He holds a bachelor of science (honours) from the University of Western Australia, and a masters in applied finance from the Securities Institute of Australia. He is a fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia.
Mr Bell said Mr Chan’s broad operational and financial services experience will be particularly valuable to Big Sky.
“We have a clear strategy for growth and Matt’s expertise will be invaluable in ensuring that, as we expand, we have the right processes, resources and information to continue offering the highest level of service to our customers and members.
“Our aim is to be a genuine alternative to the big banks and to do so we must be able to offer quality banking products and support to Australians while at the same time maintaining our existing outstanding level of customer service,” Mr Bell said.
