CareSuper has awarded Neuberger Berman a $65 million emerging markets equities mandate.

Greg Nolan, general manager – investments from CareSuper, said that Neuberger Berman’s quality investment team and approach were key reasons for awarding the mandate.

“In addition, Neuberger Berman’s emerging markets equities capability complements our existing emerging equities manager, adding diversification benefits as well,” Mr Nolan said.

Lucas Rooney, managing director, Neuberger Berman Australia, said that Australian investors continue to show interest in the longer term potential of emerging markets investing, in both equity and debt markets.

“The interest in emerging markets is particular strong in light of continuing concerns with many developed market countries’ balance sheets and challenging valuation levels in many asset classes.

“Our emerging market equities capability offers a diversified exposure to high quality companies with an eye for economic growth within the emerging countries rather than dependence on export to sluggish developing economies.

“The team focuses on high return but undervalued companies that display characteristics such as industry leadership, management track record and cash flow growth potential.  They choose high-quality emerging market securities from both within and outside the index, across the market cap spectrum, to deliver outperformance through the cycle.”

Neuberger Berman also recently hired 22 emerging markets debt investment professionals to establish a new capability spanning hard and local currency mandates, as well as emerging market debt corporate bond and dedicated Asian debt strategies.

Neuberger Berman was established in 1939 and is a US-based asset management company with approximately US$216 billion in funds under management throughout the world (as at 31 March 2013) and over 1,800 employees.  It is one of the world’s largest independent, employee-controlled financial services organisations.

The company offers a number of funds in a range of asset classes including global and emerging market equities, bonds, and alternatives such as hedge funds and private equity.

Neuberger Berman Australia gained a licence to operate in Australia in April 2011.
