To help manage its increasing expansion, HLB Mann Judd Sydney has created the position of chief operating officer and appointed Mr Michael Thurgood to the new role.
Mr Thurgood was previously general manager at KPMG Actuaries and has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry in a range of positions. This includes head of stockbroking and margin lending at HSBC Australia, and head of client services for life and wealth management at Zurich Financial Services Australia.
He holds a masters in operations management from the University of Technology, Sydney, and has been a Responsible Executive of the ASX, and a Responsible Manager under an Australian Financial Services Licence.
Mr Tony Fittler, managing partner of HLB Mann Judd Sydney, said that the firm had seen continual growth in recent years and has managed the impact of the global financial crisis on the firm so that it had little ongoing effect on its practices.
“In recent years, we have expanded the business through the creation of a business recovery division and the recruitment of a corporate finance partner, and at the same time our business and taxation services have grown steadily.
“We have reached a critical size where the practice management cannot be considered a part-time job by partners whose primary focus is on providing client services, and developing and managing their own client relationships. The business now requires a dedicated professional to handle the various aspects of managing the practice.
“Michael’s general management experience in a business environment will be of great benefit to the firm, ensuring we have the resources to take advantage of opportunities that arise as the economy recovers, as well as ensuring we continue to enhance and develop the running of the business,” Mr Fittler said.
HLB Mann Judd Sydney is a firm of accountants and business and financial advisers, and part of the HLB Mann Judd Australasian Association.
