Fund manager Neuberger Berman Australia has appointed Angelia Tonkin to the newly-created position of associate to support the firm’s distribution and client service activities.

Ms Tonkin has thirteen years’ experience in the financial services industry.  She was most recently with Hastings Funds Management for eight years, where the focus of her role was client and asset consultant service and relationship management for domestic and international institutional clients.  Ms Tonkin has also worked as an associate adviser with Shaw Stockbroking.  She is an accredited derivatives adviser by the Australian Securities Exchange and has the Securities & Derivatives Industry Association (SDIA) Accreditation (PS146 accreditation).

Lucas Rooney, senior vice-president of Neuberger Berman Australia, said that the decision to add to the team now further reflects the firm’s continuing commitment to the Australian market.

“Although we’ve only had our Australian licence for a year, we’ve launched an Australian domiciled trust and are continuing to see strong interest here in the Neuberger Berman approach.

“While Neuberger Berman runs about 160 separate investment strategies across 44 investment teams, we have chosen to introduce only those that are currently most relevant to the Australia market.  Australian institutions have invested in Neuberger Berman’s emerging markets equities, global equities, debt and alternatives capabilities.”

“We expect to introduce a small number of additional Neuberger Berman strategies to the Australian market in the coming year and Angelia’s experience will be particularly useful with this work,” Mr Rooney said.

Neuberger Berman was established in 1939 and is a US-based asset management company with approximately US$199 billion in funds under management throughout the world (as at 31 March 2012) and over 400 investment professionals.  It is one of the world’s largest independent, employee-controlled financial services organisations.

The company offers a number of funds in a range of asset classes including global and emerging market equities, bonds, and alternatives such as hedge funds and private equity.

Neuberger Berman Australia gained a licence to operate in Australia in April 2011.
